mehrblick

the title “mehrblick” plays on the identical sound of the German words “Meer” — sea — and “mehr” — more. “Meerblick”, a sea view, is not only a view towards the coast but often a value in itself — something desired, advertised and paid for. the title shifts this idea from the sea towards the desire for more: more proximity, more view, more distance from everyday life. the coast becomes the place of a second life that temporarily replaces the first. when the season ends, this life almost entirely disappears and leaves behind a landscape of absence. my images show this strange reversal, the moment when a place associated with freedom and happiness loses its promise and reveals a brittle, almost painful aesthetic. between longing and emptiness, it becomes visible how strongly we charge places with our own expectations.
