planned as a city within a building, the housing complex in Trieste combines monumental concrete architecture with a complex system of apartments, routes and communal spaces. my photographs focus on the strict geometry of the design and on the traces of everyday life that have inscribed themselves over decades into this originally utopian order. “black sun” describes a contradiction: the light of a social vision and the shadow that every built utopia carries within it.
